IJN YAMATO
This is my model of IJN Yamato in 1/350 scale. It’s the old Tamiya kit. I decided to deck the kit in  a very thin  natural wood laminate...so first thing I had to do was to prize out the gun emplacements and the superstructure form the plastic deck provided in the kit. The whole wooden deck part was scratchuilt in one whole piece with a base of 20 thou plastic sheet covered with wood laminate. The planking was all done by hand with a very fine pencil tip after a ig was fashioned one for correct spacing. This was then airbrushed with generous coats of clear varnish and sanded over and over again...until I achieved the correct hue. Phtoetch was used and  more detail added , using plastic strips, lead soldering piping and the odd bits from the old spent computer motherboard. The model was finished with a combination of enamels, acrylics and oil paint. All weathering was done in oils. Rigging was done with very thin steel wiring.
