HMT Inkpen

For our group build the “Liverpool Langton and Brocklebank diorama” we need some small support vessels. Next to my HMT Indian Star I build another A/S Trawlers. I chose to build the eight hills class HMT Inkpen, because of one fine photo I found in the internet showing her from port side.

Just like my HMT Indian Star I used HP-Models´s German Trawler VP-1102. The finely cast and well detailed 1/700 scale kit is a god base for a conversion into this typical RN Trawler.
To get a typical British style you have to shorten the upperworks and to rebuild the bridge and the boat deck. The gun plattform was a new part made from styrene rod and styrene card. For some more details I used BFM winches, a 3” gun from Pit Road and some PE parts from WEMs Flower Class PE set. Finally The mast was made from brass rod. I built most of the parts in some small sections together before I started painting them.

For painting the model I used WEMs Colorcoats. To paint the Western Approaches scheme I used Tamiya tape for masking the hull. The weathering was done by using oil paints. The rig was made with streched sprue. At two model shows in England and Germany the Inkpen was a small but important part in our diorama. In my glass cabinet at home the model is displayed on a small base showing her on patrol in the Irish Sea.
