HMS Otter, 1:700 scale from the Fine Waterline kit by Mike McCabe
The kit doesn't need much addition to build it, I chose to do Otter as there is
a good overhead photograph in the Maritime Books RN in Focus 1970-79. the
only additions were to drill out the recesses for the sonars and periscopes on
top of the sail and add plastic or brass rod to the required thickness to show
these. Diving planes were made from plastic card and the hatches and deck
details made with a combination of etched brass, copper wire or paint effects.
I painted the model black overall first then masked off the various deck details
and oversprayed in very dark grey, the model was weathered lightly using the
same grey lightened and drybrushed, finally a few crew figures were added to
complete a very quick build.
