1) Price? – about £45 in the Uk 2) Where to buy? – available in the Uk from Maritime Books
www.navybooks.com 3) What’s in the book? Packed with good quality photos, useful
drawings and a lot of useful text 4) First impression? Outstanding 5) Print Quality? Again outstanding 6) Layout? Generally very good, very few if any illustrations printed
across two pages and thus not effect by the guttering. In some cases it
would be nice to have larger drawings filling a whole page rather than a
quarter or half page. Presumably this is not done to keep costs down. 7) Drawings? A very varied and useful selection – will be very
beneficial to the modeller. 8) Photos? Well-chosen, high quality examples with great clarity for
modelling reference 9) Also includes? Comprehensive list of notes of fates of all ships,
bibliography, notes on sources 10) Anything missing? Yes – artwork for camouflage patterns would
have been nice 11) Value for money? Yes, in my opinion this book is a must-have for
those with an interest in the Royal Navy 12) Modelling use? Certainly if you are planning a build of an RN
cruiser. 13) Would I buy other books from this author? Yes, certainly. I have
all of his books and look forward to each new one. 14) Any other business? I think this book is a very fine addition to the various books from Messers Raven, Roberts and Lenton and also Dr Friedman’s previous work on RN ships. This book should appeal to modellers and fans of RN history alike. Rob Kernaghan
