HMS Peacock in 1/350 scale

The five vessels of this class were designed as ocean going back-up for the Hong Kong Police Department. Having a displacement of only 700 tons they could attain speeds of up to 28 knots, the compact hull was 60 x 10 x 5. Main armament was a 76mm Oto Melara gun mount, she also carried two 18’ RHIB Seariders on the quarterdeck. Used in the war against drug trafficking and also for illegal immigration control, in jack speak known as I,I’s.

The Kit
This is a Peter Hall multimedia kit so if you have built any WEM kits then you know what you’re getting.

Resin, four parts make up the bulk of this kit with a two piece hull giving waterline or full hull options and a two-part superstructure. All are cleanly moulded with no flash or holes.

White metal, RHIB’s, gun, boat cranes, windlass, director, A frames and mast platform/top pole, plus, a length of brass rod.
As you would expect from this material there is a small amount of flash and all surfaces will need a gentle rub with wire wool or scotch pad to bring out the best before applying any paint.

Photo etch, there are approximately 102 separate parts some of which you will not use e.g. rudders and props if water lining and name plates as all of the five in the class are given but that still leaves you 90 parts to play with. Star of the show is the mast and yards but only just, as there are two other items that caught my eye, one being the flag locker the other two boat fuel stowage racks. Also at the top of the fret are two Hong Kong squadron funnel badges.

Instructions, two double sided A4 sheets. Page 1 gives history and part break down, pages 2 and 3 clear step by step and option guides, page 4 further instructions and full colour painting guide.

Decals, none are supplied, which is a shame but you often find this and is mainly down to cost.
Conclusions

·         This is a welcome addition to the expanding RN model scene.
·         Quality (Resin, p/etch, instructions) very good, ( white metal) good, ( decals) N/A
·         Cost, retails for approx. £48 plus p+p so ok
·         50 is the total available at present so limited stock
·         I would recommend this as a good model for first time resin kit builders, or as a fast clean build for the more experienced.
