Rigging Binding Posts

Holding fibres while you’re rigging
Using Blu-Tack to hold the ends of fibres to the building board as
described by David Griffiths on pages 108 to 113 in his reference book
Ship models from kits works really well.
But sometimes you need to secure the fibre ends at a greater height –
especially when securing funnel guys round the top of a funnel. Angles
of dangles downwards create wrong directions and undue stresses.

My simple solution is binding posts. Make holes in the building board
and push fit cut off lengths of wire coat hanger or similar rod wherever
they need to be. You can then take a couple of turns of fibre
around the posts and secure it with CA. The other end is free for you to
tension with self-closing tweezers, a drop of gum or glue, excess
snipped off and ... hey presto ... you don’t need three hands!
This works really well in the larger scales – say 1:300 upwards. But
also works in the little ones as well. Pictures show Airfix 1:600 HMS
Manxman being rigged using binding posts.
