IPMS Fine Waterline Special Interest Group

Welcome to finewaterline.com, the website of the Fine Waterline Special Interest Group of IPMS, the International Plastic Modellers Society.  As the name suggests, we are a group of modellers based in the UK whose main interest is ships depicted in their natural element, at sea. Our aim is to bring together people with an interest in building waterline ships between 1:700 and 1:350 scale, and to aim for ever higher standards in our modelling.

A gallery will show the work of the group with plenty of tips and tricks to show how we got there.  To help point you in the right direction there is a links page to our other favourite modelling websites and other IPMS groups, there are also those important shops and companies producing resin ship models and all those hard to find bits and pieces.

If you would like to join our group, submit articles and photos for possible inclusion in the site or just generally would like to ask a question, email us on - mail@finewaterline.com and we will get back to you with how to send photos and how to format them.

You don't have to be an IPMS member to join our group, all are welcome.  Send your name and IPMS number (if you have one) and country of residence so we can register you.

Update 22 August 10

Kit Update - Summer holiday, no further orders until October

We are taking a break from kit production and sales over summer, as of today we will not be making any more sales until October.

At this point all of our kits are out of production, when we return with sales in October it will probably be with additions to the Dunkirk line and some new items but at present we have no plans to re-release any of the kits produced up to this point.

Our philosophy is to sell very short run and limited edition kits made for the experienced modeller who will have their own references and spares box to be able to complete the model to their own level of desired detail, we do not plan to keep all the range in production at any one time.

Should you have a particular wish for a kit in our range then drop us an email on mail@finewaterline.com and if there is sufficient interest we may be tempted to produce another batch, otherwise once they are gone, they are gone.

Telford 2010
Time to start thinking and planning for the main UK model event of the year, the IPMS Nationals at Telford in November.  This year's theme of the show will be the Battle of Britain, fine if you are an aircraft modeller of course, but apparently, but keep this to yourselves, there are people who are members of IPMS who don't build WW2 aircraft!  Now you have had time to recover from that bombshell, and in recognition of another great event of 1940 and of course I mean the evacuation of Allied troops at Dunkirk, the them of the Fine Waterline stand this year will be Operation Dynamo and Dunkirk.  A perfect opportunity of course to build some of our line of kits, but also there are many more ships which are available in kit form which took part in that momentous event.

If you are a Fine Waterline member and interested in participating, please let us know.

Keith Jones Trophy
IPMS UK has agreed for a new trophy to be presented for the first time at the Nationals in Telford this year, it will be the Keith Jones Trophy in the memory of our good friend Keith who passed away last year.  The subject for the trophy will be any subject related to the Battle of the Atlantic, so that includes ships and aircraft.  It will be sponsored by L'Arsenal who are kindly going to give a voucher to the winner of the trophy.  For those of you who will be at Telford, please consider entering the competition and supporting this new trophy, even if competitions aren't really your thing, it would be nice to see this supported as a way of keeping Keith in our memories.
